My Five Minute Friday prompt this week is—PROTECT. This largely unedited “rough draft” form of writing stretches this perfectionist, in the best of ways. I write for five minutes on a given topic. If you’re interested in learning more about 5-Minute Fridays, check out our hostess, Kate Motaung’s site. Or, click on the link at the bottom of this post. As you read my simpler Friday posts, I hope you’ll join in the conversation!
PROTECT
I’m blessed to be surrounded by protectors.
My father served in the Navy as a young man. He protected our family from many things, acting as a shield at times. Providing for our needs, protecting us from homelessness when I was a girl. We didn’t have a ton of money, but we always had enough food and a roof over our heads, and I always knew I could go to him with anything.
My husband, his brothers, and their father served in the Armed Forces for many years, protecting the rights so many Americans take for granted. They’ve laid their lives on the line to protect the people of our nation.
But there’s One who protects completely.
Though we may not always see God’s protection for what it is, He secures us. God tells us He’s always with us. He’ll never leave us, never forsake us.
He’s a shield about us. How many times do we see His shield covering our lives? Honestly? I rarely take the time to look for His protection.
The times I do search for it most often revolve around the storms and trials that enter my life. Then I’m calling out—begging—for His protection over me. Protection from the storm and sometimes from others’ choices.
The thing about God is that he never promises to protect us from the storms (Click to Tweet). But, He always walks with us through them. He protects us with His presence, His sovereignty.
Nothing will pass through our lives that He hasn’t already vetted. He sometimes acts as our umbrella, our sounding board, our strong tower when we are weak.
He is the best protector. As much as I love my husband and my family . . . as thankful as I am for their willingness to sacrifice their lives to protect the rights I enjoy . . . I’m even more thankful for the One who sees the things I cannot see and protects me from them.
What about you? When have you seen God protecting you? Who has been your protector in a physical sense?
