Forget: God Always Remembers

Our Five Minute Friday prompt this week is—FORGET. This largely unedited “rough draft” form of writing stretches this perfectionist, in the best of ways. I write for five minutes on a given topic. FORGET

A few times in my life, I suspected that God may have forgotten me. When I searched for two years for a teaching job, I was so ready to begin really l living my life!

When I attended ten weddings in one year, and was in two of them. When would my prince charming come and help me begin really living my life?

When so many friends had babies in a short span of time . . .

When hubby and I attended a new church on Mother’s Day and three times carnations were offered, and then rescinded when I admitted I was not a mother—physically—though I was in my heart. I was so ready to begin really living my life.

How many times did I secretly accuse God of forgetting me?

It wasn’t until I really and truly understood how amazing His love is for me—and each of His children—that I began to see that He hadn’t ever forgotten me.

When my eyes focused on unmet desires, I forgot Him, for the sake of what I was certain would fulfill my heart and make me happy.

I was stuck in those times of forgetfulness.

But—our God—His love for us is perfect, complete and passionate. He never forgets us. Mothers never forget their children. They may go a little crazy sometimes, and even mamas who have not been able to raise their own children, they never forget.

And our God? His love is even stronger, his memory never fades. He knows us from the inside out, and He still loves us.

He knows our needs before we do. And He has His ways of fulfilling those needs. We don’t always understand, but we can be assured He never forgets us. It’s one of His promises.

May we grow in not forgetting His faithfulness to us, especially in those hardest of times. May we always remember Him and His love for us.

  1. Yep. I’m pretty forgetful. But the more times he brings me through trials, the easier it is to remember more quickly that I don’t have to freak out–God has it covered (although I may indulge in a bout of snot-crying and fist-shaking first).

    1. Yeah, Anita, I’ve had those times too. Where I have to get my emotion out (aka pouting and frustration). Thank goodness God is big enough to handle us, huh? There’s great reassurance in knowing God’s got us covered; He never forgets us. 🙂

  3. Oh Jeanne, thank you! This post spoke straight to my heart today. So much THIS: “He knows our needs before we do. And He has His ways of fulfilling those needs. We don’t always understand, but we can be assured He never forgets us. It’s one of His promises.” I’m over in the #12 spot this week.

    1. Tara, I’m always glad when you stop by. Isn’t there comfort in resting in the truth that God knows our needs? And He meets them, in His way and timing. I chafe against that sometimes, but it’s becoming a little easier to rest in this reality. 🙂

    and you. You are so good at helping remind others that we’re not forgotten. You visit our blogs even if we don’t come over first. You say hi on twitter. You ask how we are. You CARE. And when we know we are cared for, we know we are remembered and not forgotten. We are not left behind. Jesus IS coming back. He didn’t forget we were still down here waiting. Oooh, that’s another post now, isn’t it?!

  5. No way I can forget now. Today I went to the Other Side, and came back, and life (and death) will never be the same.

    Too ill now to say more than this – Heaven is the reality, this life is the dream. But this life is important, because the blessings here are those of Heaven. There, the greatest joys are the smallest.

I’m so sorry for the pain and suffering you’ve had to walk through, but SO thankful to God for using it so powerfully to show you His Love for you and to shine in and through you to bless us here.     1. That scripture is one of my favorites too . . . to know God never forgets us, is compassionate toward us, that He loves us. I’m always thankful when you stop by here, Anna. You always add something edifying to the conversation. I’m so glad God meets each of us and draws us closer to Him in His perfect ways.

  7. I used that same verse today, Jeanne. Related to my mama’s Alzheimer’s and, sadly, a mama can forget her own. But the comfort is in knowing God has forgotten neither of us. His words will always be our greatest comfort because His words are His love to us. Lovely, Jeanne. And that last photo – such beauty!

    1. Debby, I hadn’t thought about a mama forgetting her own because of Alzheimer’s. My grand mother died from that disease, and I’m so sorry you’re walking through it with your own mama. Thank goodness God never, ever forgets us. And I loved what you said: “His words will always be our greatest comfort because His words are His love to us.” So very true.

  9. So so thankful that God knows my needs before I do… I guess that’s why journalling (or blogging or whatever) is so important – to remember that God does not forget us. Our timing is just different. Thanks for your wisdom!

    1. Annie, I think you’re right. When we journal (or blog, or whatever) we are remembering that God knows us, that He remembers us. And oh, boy, has my timing been different from His on one or two (or hundreds) of occasions. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

I also love the verse from Isaiah 49:15 and the beautiful image that accompanies it. Those words are so precious to me because I lacked the security of being loved well as a child and it wasn’t until I met with Jesus that my idea of love got turned on its head. Now, as I pursue the theme of ‘love’ for 2016, I have a sneaking suspicion that its depth and beautifully reassuring truth may finally embed itself into my heart. Thank you and bless you for this lovely word! 🙂 x

    1. Joy, thank goodness God’s love isn’t flawed like parental/family love. Jesus is amazing in His ability to help us understand genuine, unconditional love. Not only does He not forget us, but He never leaves us.He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!” Love this verse!!

  12. Dear Jeanne, this is a beautiful post. It added a measure of peace to my life. I am in #85 this week. Blessings Diana He will never leave us or forsake us. And even when He is silent he is working.
