Christmas: Hope in Waiting

As I read this verse this morning. It stopped me. No, Micah isn’t a book in the Bible that most people flip to when they think of Christmas. Here’s what stopped me:

In this season of Advent, we wait for the Lord’s appearing. For Jesus’ birth. Many of us still watch for Him in our daily lives.

During Micah’s day, the people waited for God to show up . . . when they weren’t distracted by idols. Micah waited for God to fulfill His word. He spoke with confidence, declaring that God heard him. I love that confidence!

In our busy, modern day society, we still hold that longing to be filled, to be heard.

Today, we wait to see Him act in our lives. We yearn to know we are heard by Someone greater than ourselves.

We hold onto hope that God will hear us. That He will answer us. 

In his time of waiting, Micah clung to the hope that God heard him. That God would answer in His perfect timing.

As we watch in anticipation of Christmas, may we watch for God’s fingerprints upon our lives, and in our world. May we keep our hope steadfastly set on Him and Him alone.

I pray you will know the hope and anticipation of Jesus’ coming, and the gift He gave us on the cross. May your time be spent with loved ones and in knowing that you are loved by One who is crazy about you.

  1. I am finding that beyond hope, there is discipline; hope may fade, as mine is waning, but discipline keeps honing to a razor-sharpness the steel of last resort.

  2. Love this and the verse from Micah. Christmas brought hope to the world and continues to remind me of just how dependent I am on God’s grace.     1. Gene, I am so dependent on God’s grace. As our boys walk further into the teenage years, and they make some of those . . . choices that lead them to realizing how fallible they are . . .   3. I would not have thought to turn to Micah for a verse describing this time that leads to Christmas. What a perfect verse.

    1. Mary, I was so surprised when God turned my thoughts in this direction as I had my quiet time yesterday. I never thought of Micah as a book telling the Christmas story. I guess this is just a reminder of how God’s love and hope is imprinted in every book of the Bible. I hope your Christmas is joy-filled and a special one in your new home!

  4. This a great verse, and a great reminder that we should be watching and waiting for God to show up in our daily lives and keep our hope in him.

    1. Yes, Lesley. We should be watching and waiting in anticipation. I find it too easy to get caught up in the daily to-do’s, and I miss glimpses of God’s moving in my days. I hope your Christmas is a wonderful one too!

  7. I love this verse and your reflections, Jeanne. What would we do without the HOPE that came down to us?! What a great Gift He is! We are so dependent on His grace, aren’t we? Have a hope-filled, joy-filled Christmas with your loved ones! Christmas hugs!
